The subject of an Immigration and Customs Enforcement detainer has been sentenced to one month in jail after reaching a plea deal in an Iowa City case involving the attempted enticement of a minor.
29-year-old Hanier Ramirez-Garcia entered a guilty plea to a charge of Attempting to Entice a Minor last week. Additional charges of Grooming and Telephone Dissemination of Obscene Material to a Minor were dismissed as part of a plea deal.
Iowa City Police say last October, Ramirez-Garcia used a fake Facebook profile to communicate with a person he believed to be a 15-year-old girl. Ramirez-Garcia allegedly made plans to meet the girl in-person for sexual purposes, despite showing concern over the girl’s age. At one point, Ramirez-Garcia reportedly sent the other party a photo of his erect penis and repeatedly asked her to send “sexy photos”.
Ramirez-Garcia has no listed address. Last week, Judge Deborah Minot sentenced him to 30 days in jail, with credit for time served. Now that his sentence is complete, Ramirez-Garcia is eligible to be taken into ICE custody.
