Area transient accused of writing bad checks to grocery store

An area transient was arrested Monday evening after he allegedly wrote a series of bad checks to a local grocery store.

Police say between May 8^th and 9^th, 42-year-old Thomas White wrote a total of ten different checks totaling over $1050 to purchase numerous items at the Waterfront HyVee.

All of the checks were returned for insufficient funds. When interviewed, White allegedly admitted to writing the checks, and claimed that the store refused to accept his money.

A warrant was issued on May 16^th; White was booked at the Johnson County Jail last night and faces a 3^rd degree Theft charge. If convicted, he could be sentenced to up to two years in jail.
