A traffic stop in North Liberty over the weekend led to drug and weapon charges against a Texas man.
Police stopped 69-year-old Carlos Isaac of Poteet Texas at around 2:45 am Saturday on Ranshaw Way headed north, due to a lane violation. A check of his driving record showed a revoked license through Iowa and a non-driver ID through Texas.
Isaac reportedly consented to a search of his vehicle, and an odor of marijuana was detected. Officers located a bag of marijuana in a suitcase that Isaac allegedly admitted was his. A Sig Saur .40 caliber handgun was also located in the vehicle. A glass pipe with a white powdery substance was found in the driver’s side door that Isaac reportedly admitted was his.
Isaac was sitting in the back of the patrol car while the search was conducted. When asked out, a ziplock baggie was on the floor board of the back seat with a white powdery substance consistent with meth.
A check of Isaac’s criminal history found six prior felony convictions.
He was arrested and charged with marijuana possession, meth possession, dominion or control of a firearm as a felon, and possession of drug paraphernalia. If convicted on all counts, Isaac could be sentenced to a prison term of up to over seven years.
