An Iowa City man has been arrested after an investigation reportedly determined that he attached electronic tracking devices to a vehicle.
The victim contacted Iowa City Police and gave them consent the morning of May 13th to look under the vehicle, a 2012 Volkswagen Jetta, to look for a tracking device. It was parked at Lot 3 on Museum Drive.
A black box was reportedly discovered magnetically attached to the passenger side frame.
The next afternoon, the victim requested another search while the vehicle was parked in Lot 11 on South Madison Street. Again, a tracking device was discovered attached to the passenger side frame.
A warrant was issued for 53-year-old William Easton of Jema Court, and served on Sunday by University of Iowa Department of Public Safety. His phone allegedly contained an app that was used to monitor the tracking devices.
Easton has been charged with two counts of Stalking by use of a Technological Device and could be sentenced to up to 20 years in prison if convicted on both charges.
