A Shelter House resident was arrested this week after allegedly stealing a bike.

24-year-old James Snyder Jr., who lists his residence as the Southgate Avenue facility, was spotted by an Iowa City Police officer Wednesday night and reportedly recognized him from a bike theft report he had taken earlier in the day.

Snyder was allegedly wearing the same clothing that was captured by surveillance video of the theft, and was riding the bike that had been reported as stolen.

Value of the bike was estimated at about $1400.

Snyder was arrested and charged with 3rd degree Theft, an aggravated misdemeanor punishable by a jail sentence of up to two years if convicted.
