An Iowa City teenager got more than he bargained for when he took the advice of a YouTube angling expert during a recent fishing trip on the Iowa River.
14-year-old Northwest Junior High student Benjamin Strong told KCJJ he’s been waking up at 3:30 a.m. for the last week so he could make the half-hour bicycle ride to the Burlington Street dam to fish before school. Strong says he recently got advice from the creators behind the YouTube channel Backroads Angling, which has posted multiple videos from the dam about how to catch flathead catfish.
Strong says on his first attempt, he caught a 68 pound flathead…the first he’s caught that weighs over five pounds.
