An Iowa City man who was given suspended sentences and probation on previous felonies was arrested after allegedly being found in possession of a sword last month.
31-year-old Michael Preslicka of Wayne Avenue was near the intersection of Hollywood Boulevard and Taylor Drive just past 4:45 am April 27th. He was allegedly observed by officers in possession of a sword with a blade measuring approximately 28 inches long, concealed on the back of his jacket.
Police say the lip of the sword could be seen sticking out from the top of Preslicka’s jacket, while a large portion of the sword handle was sticking out from the bottom of the jacket. He allegedly admitted that the sword was his.
On October 5th, 2023, Presilicka was convicted of multiple felonies for drugs, theft and forgery. He was given suspended sentences, along with probation of up to three years. Due to the convictions, he is ineligible to carry a dangerous weapon.
After a warrant for his arrest was issued May 2nd, Preslicka was charged with the weapons offense, a serious misdemeanor punishable by up to a year in jail if convicted.
