Several area residents were arrested for OWI over the holiday weekend, but one Iowa City man reportedly had a dangerously high level of alcohol when he was stopped by police.
43-year-old Anthony Hicks was allegedly observed by police committing several traffic violations, and was pulled over on the 500 block of Burlington Street at 11pm Sunday. While speaking with Hicks, officers reportedly observed bloodshot watery eyes and slurred speech. He was found to be unable to complete any of the field sobriety tests due to his level of intoxication.
Hicks told police that he had a few drinks while he was watching a basketball game earlier. His breath alcohol level measured on a Datamaster, however, showed it at .342 percent, a level considered medically dangerous.
Hicks was charged with OWI first offense and could be sentenced to up to a year in jail if convicted.
