A transient is accused of fighting with police who told her to leave a transitional housing facility.
Iowa City Police were called to the 501 Apartments on Southgate Avenue just before 1:00 Friday afternoon after 29-year-old Hasafinah Muhammad refused requests to leave the property. Arrest records indicate Muhammad showed signs of intoxication. When officers told her to turn around and place her hands behind her back, she reportedly refused and began wrestling with them. At one point, Muhammad allegedly tried to bite an officer’s hands.
Muhammad is now charged with Assault on Persons in Certain Occupations, Public Intoxication, and Interference With Official Acts. If convicted on all counts, she faces a maximum of 14 months in jail.
