U.S. Senator Joni Ernst has posted a sarcastic response to criticism over her recent comment that, “We are all going to die” when a constituent expressed concern over people dying because of recent cuts to Medicaid.

The comment came at a town hall Friday in Parkersburg.

After national backlash over the comment, the Iowa senator took to her Instagram account, where she posted a video on Saturday that appears to have been shot in a cemetery. She began the statement with what appeared to be a serious apology, saying, “I would like to take this opportunity to sincerely apologize for a statement that I made yesterday at my town hall.”

The video then took a snarky turn, with Ernst continuing, “I made an incorrect assumption that everyone in the auditorium understood that yes, we are all going to perish from this Earth. So I apologize. And I’m really, really glad that I did not have to bring up the subject of the tooth fairy as well. But for those that would like to see eternal and everlasting life, I encourage you to embrace my lord and savior, Jesus Christ.”

Ernst later blamed what she called, “hysteria that’s out there coming from the left” for her initial comment.
