Sanitary Sewer Line Cleaning & Preventative Maintenance in June
A large high pressure truck will be used to clean the sanitary sewers. Some homes and businesses may be affected by the high cleaning pressure.
The City of Coralville has contracted with CIT Sewer Solutions to clean and televise the sanitary sewers throughout the month of June.
Why Clean Sanitary Sewers
The cleaning and televising is performed as a preventative maintenance measure and to determine the overall condition of the sanitary sewer. There is also a regulatory requirement in the City’s National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permit to maintain the system in good working order and to prevent sanitary sewer overflows.
Cleaning the sanitary sewers helps to remove materials in the pipes such as grease, tree roots, and debris. It also helps remove other material that doesn’t belong in the sewer, such as disposable wipes. Televising sanitary sewer lines involves proactively using a remote camera to inspect the sewer lines.
What You Can Expect
A large high pressure truck will be used to clean the sanitary sewers. Some homes and businesses may be affected by the high cleaning pressure. This high pressure can force air back through the home’s service line and spray a small volume of water out of floor drains and toilets.
As a precaution, it is recommended to cover floor drains and toilets with a towel to absorb any water. It also helps to place a heavy object on the towel to prevent any movement. When the cleaning crew has left your area, please pour water down all drains.
