An Iowa City man who allegedly took a car without permission and failed to return it has been arrested.

Police say 40-year-old Nicholas Anderson of Regal Lane was a passenger in a 2005 Chrysler 300, driven by the boyfriend of the owner. They stopped at the South Gilbert Street Kum & Go the afternoon of May 14th; while the driver went inside, Anderson allegedly got into the driver’s seat and took off with the vehicle.

Neither the driver or the owner of the Chrysler gave Anderson permission to operate the vehicle, and the vehicle was not returned to either the owner or her boyfriend.

A warrant was issued May 19th; Anderson was located and taken into custody Monday afternoon. He’s charged with Operating a Vehicle without Owner Consent, an aggravated misdemeanor punishable by a jail sentence of up to two years if convicted.
