Body of missing man found in Iowa River

A body found in the Iowa River last month has now been identified as a subject who was reported missing a week earlier.

According to a news release from the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office, 63-year-old Christopher Jennings was last seen near the Benton Street Bridge in Iowa City on May 22nd.

Following the reported disappearance, multiple land, water and air searches were conducted with assistance from the Iowa State Patrol.
On May 30th, Johnson County deputies located a deceased individual in the Iowa River approximately 1 1/2 miles north of Hills. The body was transported to University of Iowa Health Care for an autopsy, where a cause of death has yet to be determined.
On June 3rd, the Johnson County Medical Examiner positively identified the body as Jennings. No foul play is suspected at this time. The incident remains under investigation by the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office and the Johnson County Medical Examiner.
