A convicted sex offender has died in custody at the Iowa Medical and Classification Center in Coralville.
The Iowa Department of Corrections reports 52-year-old Joseph William Willemsen was pronounced dead at 9:14 last Saturday morning in the infirmary room of the Oakdale facility.
Willemsen had been at the IMCC for less than two months. He was convicted on charges of 3rd Degree Sexual Abuse and Incest in Marion County in 2019 and was sent back to prison after a probation violation last August. He was also convicted on a pair of sex offender registry violations in Polk County last year.
