House District 43 State representative Eddie Andrews has announced a run for governor.
In an announcement at the State Capitol on Wednesday, Andrews said he knows he won’t be the most-funded candidate, but has won races where he was outspent before. The Des Moines Register reports Andrews claims to have a seven-figure financial commitment he will be announcing in the coming days.
The Republican says he hopes to build a people-first, ground up campaign, focusing on improving Iowa’s education system, combating human trafficking, eliminating property taxes and fighting against the use of eminent domain for carbon capture pipelines.
The district includes Johnston, and parts of Urbandale and Saylorville. Andrews is in his third term.
Although other Republicans have hinted at runs for the governorship, only Andrews and former state representative Brad Sherman have formally announced. On the Democratic side, state auditor Rob Sand has been joined this week by political consultant Julie Stauch; she was the state’s political director for Pete Buttigieg’s 2020 presidential campaign.
