University of Iowa Health Care is requesting permission from the Iowa Board of Regents to sign a lease for a medical clinic at 2751 Northgate Drive, just north of Interstate 80 off North Dodge Street in Iowa City. UIHC officials say the new clinic will provide patients and community members with convenient, accessible primary care services and serve as the new home for UI Health Care’s Department of Family and Community Medicine.

The 33,000-square-foot building is the former home of Steindler Orthopedic Clinic, which recently moved to North Liberty. The location will house a large primary care clinic with 43 clinical exam rooms and a lab, as well as the Family Medicine residency program and Department of Family and Community Medicine’s academic, research, education, and administrative staff.

The Northgate Drive location is across the street from the future Center for Disabilities and Development location, which was approved by the Board in April.

The Department of Family and Community Medicine, which is currently located in the Pomerantz Pavilion, will continue to have a small presence at the UIHC campus location. The department will also support a 26-bed inpatient unit at the UIHC downtown campus dedicated to family medicine and will begin treating patients this summer.
