An Area transient was arrested after allegedly slapping his girlfriend and causing damage to her Coralville residence.

The victim reportedly told police that 37-year-old Curtis Larson was at the residence at around 1am June 1st. He first punched a window and shattered it. He then reportedly tried to break down her door, causing the door frame and the inside of the door to crack.  Larson told the woman that he damaged her property on purpose. He then allegedly slapped her across the face.  She said that her cheek stung after the incident.

The couple have been dating off and on for the past three years and had lived together within the past year.

Police came looking for Larson at the residence the evening of June 2nd. They allegedly came upon a container with over 120 grams of marijuana among Larson’s property left at the scene. Witnesses reportedly identified the property as Larson’s.

A warrant was issued June 3rd.  He was located and arrested Friday. Larson’s hand was reportedly sliced up and swollen, which the victim told police it would be.

He was charged with Domestic Abuse Assault 3rd or subsequent offense, a controlled substance violation, and 4th degree criminal mischief.  If convicted on all counts, Larson could be sentenced to up to 7 years in prison.  A no-contact order was issued by Judge Deborah Minot.

In August of 2022, Larson was accused of violating a no-contact order three times within two days after its issue; the first was just a few hours after being served.  He pleaded guilty to two of the charges and was given a 14-day time-served sentence.
