Iowa City man cited after crash involving Johnson County deputy

A traffic accident involving a Johnson County deputy has led to charges against an Iowa City man.

According to a sheriff’s office news release, at 7:20 Thursday morning a Johnson County Deputy was northbound in the 1300 block of Highway 965 near Swisher when he was struck by another vehicle. 46-year-old Darwin Tinnian of Iowa City was southbound in a white Volkswagen Jetta and made an improper U-turn in a business driveway while attempting to turn around and go north. Tinnian’s vehicle broadsided the patrol car, which was in the northbound lane. Neither Tinnian nor the deputy were injured in the crash.

The crash was investigated by the Iowa State Patrol. Tinnian was cited for Making an Unsafe Turn and Failure to Provide Security Against Liability.
