The Linn County Sheriff’s Department arrested a Cedar Rapids man on multiple charges Thursday night following an attempted traffic stop.

The incident occurred at approximately 9:41pm on Interstate 30 near Interstate 380.  The deputy made a traffic stop and approached the driver, who later put the vehicle into gear and sped away, leading the deputy on a pursuit.

The chase reportedly went westbound on Highway 30 were speeds reached over 100 miles per hour. Another deputy deployed a tire deflation device on Highway 30 near Edgewood Raod,  causing a front tire to deflate. The driver then exited and went south on Williams Boulevard until the vehicle pulled over.

The driver attempted to flee on foot but was caught by deputies a short distance away.  He has been identified as 31-year-old David Abrams Jr of Cedar Rapids.

A post-arrest search of the vehicle located a gun under Abram’s seat.

On top of numerous traffic violations, Abrams has been charged with Eluding, Felon in Possession of a Weapon, Driving while Barred,  and Inteference with Official Acts. If convicted on all counts, he faces a prison term of over 12 years.
