The victim in a Coralville murder case had a history of attempted murder and weapons charges against him.

27-year-old Mason Edwards of Coralville was shot twice during a reported disturbance inside a residence in the Western Hills Estates manufactured housing community on Highway 6 just before midnight Wednesday. He died at the scene.
Edwards himself was accused of shooting another individual in the same mobile home court in June of 2018. Witnesses told police Edwards had been blocked from confronting another person in another room. Edwards allegedly grabbed a firearm and shot around the person blocking him, hitting his target in both legs. The Attempted Murder, Going Armed with Intent, and Carrying Weapons charges from that incident no longer appear on the Iowa Courts website.
Edwards also had previous convictions for Assault While Displaying a Weapon in August of 2018, as well as Assault Causing Bodily Injury and 1st Degree Harassment in March of 2019.
At the time of his death, Edwards had also been facing active charges of Assault While Displaying a Weapon, Assault Causing Bodily Injury, 3rd Degree Criminal Mischief, 4th Degree Criminal Mischief, and Public Intoxication relating to an incident in Linn County in May.

It is unknown if anyone involved in any of those incidents is considered a suspect in Edwards’ murder.
