A man who allegedly eluded police and held them at bay during a standoff has reached a plea deal.

Online court records show 46-year-old Justin Halter entered a written guilty plea on Friday. Details of the plea deal are not listed in online records.

According to arrest records, Halter used his car to flee the scene of a domestic incident on the morning of February 3rd. Iowa City Police began a pursuit on Flatiron Avenue, with Halter allegedly refusing to pull over for lights and sirens. He reportedly went through stop signs and a yard during the pursuit. Halter eventually returned to a residence on Grant Wood Drive, where an hour-long standoff began just after 1:15 a.m. as police say Halter refused to exit his 2001 Dodge Dakota. Halter lists the address as his in arrest records, but the owner of the house contacted KCJJ to say Halter’s girlfriend actually lives there.

Halter was eventually arrested and charged with Eluding and Interference With Official Acts. If convicted on both counts, he would have faced a maximum of 13 months in jail. A sentencing date has not yet been set.
