An Iowa City man faces criminal mischief charges after allegedly violating a no contact order earlier this year.

According to criminal complaint documents, 30-year-old Miguel Borjas-Torres went to the protected party’s residence on March 1st and took the house cat and the cat litter box.  A witness stated that he threw the dirty cat litter in and around the protected party’s car.  He then allegedly grabbed a stick and started to hit the car with it, causing a dent to the driver’s side pillar.

The no-contact order had been issued just two days earlier.

A warrant was issued March 3rd; Borjas-Torres was charged with 4th degree Criminal Mischief and a contempt charge for violating the no-contact order. He could be sentenced to up to a year in jail if convicted.

The same day the warrant was issued, Judge Brandon Schrock extended the no-contact order an additional five years.
