Allegedly stealing a safe after breaking into a Coralville restaurant has led to the arrest of an Iowa City man.
53-year-old Trevor Gast of Sycamore Street was booked into the Johnson County Jail just after 9:45 Monday morning. Coralville Police say Gast entered 30hop on the Iowa River Landing at about 2:15 on the morning of January 6th, after staff had left for the night. He reportedly stole a safe and later broke it open, taking the over $14,000 inside. The safe, on which Gast’s DNA was found, was located near the restaurant.
Gast is charged with 1st Degree Theft, 3rd Degree Burglary, and 5th Degree Criminal Mischief. If convicted on all counts, he faces a maximum of over 15 years in prison.
