An Iowa City drunk driving suspect is accused of throwing a used tissue at an officer after his arrest.

A traffic stop was attempted on a 2013 Chevy Malibu being driven by 26-year-old Andres Gallardo of Valor Way SW in Cedar Rapids as he was allegedly speeding down Dubuque Street near Park Road just before 9:45 Tuesday night. Police say Gallardo failed to pull over in a timely manner, and continued for an inordinate amount of time while ignoring the officer’s lights and siren.

One he finally stopped, Gallardo reportedly showed signs of intoxication. His breath alcohol level was measured at .161%. Police say Gallardo later claimed he was too intoxicated to sign an unsecured appearance bond.

While in custody at the Iowa City Police Department, Gallardo allegedly blew his nose into a tissue and threw it at an officer doing paperwork relating to the arrest.

Gallardo is charged with Operating While Intoxicated, Assault on Persons in Certain Occupations, Failure to Yield to an Emergency Vehicle, and Speeding. If convicted on all charges, he faces a maximum of two years in jail.
