City of Iowa City news release

The Iowa City Public Library (ICPL) will observe Juneteenth, a day commemorating the end of slavery in the United States, with adjusted hours on Thursday, June 19. The Downtown Library will be open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. This schedule adjustment supports community reflection and learning around the significance of Juneteenth.

We invite patrons to explore our curated Juneteenth resources, including books, films, and online materials that highlight the history and ongoing impact of emancipation and Black liberation in America.

Please note: The ICPL Bookmobile will not operate on this day. Patrons who rely on Bookmobile services are encouraged to plan accordingly. Library book returns will remain open at our Downtown and remote bookdrop locations. Remember that our Digital Library remains open 24/7, ensuring that you can always connect with the books and resources you love. It provides resident cardholders in Iowa City, Hills, University Heights, Lone Tree, and rural Johnson County with access to a multitude of resources, including ebooks, audiobooks, streaming films, and digital newspapers.

Regular hours for both the Downtown Library and the Bookmobile resume on Friday, June 20.
