An Iowa City man was arrested earlier this week after he was reportedly found driving a stolen vehicle.

28-year-old Jamaal Brooks of the Town and Campus Apartments on Arthur Street  was stopped on Waconia Avenue SW in Cedar Rapids at 2:40am Monday for speeding.  The officers on scene learned that Brooks was not the registered owner of the vehicle and did not get the vehicle from its owner.

The owner was contacted and stated he did not know Brooks, and did not give him permission to possess or operate the vehicle. It was determined that the vehicle had been stolen from his residence.

Brooks allegedly confirmed that he didn’t know the owner of the vehicle and did not get permission from him to operate the vehicle.

Brooks was charged with 2nd degree Theft, a Class D Felony punishable by a prison sentence of up to five years if convicted.
