Iowa City shooting suspect enters not guilty plea

A suspect in an Iowa City shooting has entered a not guilty plea.

19-year-old Francois Pierre Parker of Davis Street entered the plea on Friday to charges of Willful Injury Causing Serious Injury, Intimidation With A Dangerous Weapon, Trafficking in Stolen Weapons Used in a Crime, Going Armed With Intent, 2nd Degree Burglary, Assault While Displaying a Dangerous Weapon, Use of a Dangerous Weapon in the Commission of a Crime, Person Ineligible to Carry Dangerous Weapons, Possession of a Controlled Substance – Marijuana, and 5th Degree Theft.

According to a news release from Iowa City Police, just before 11:00 on the night of May 26th officers responded to the shooting scene on the 800 block of Cross Park Avenue. A man had been shot inside his vehicle by a subject who fled the scene on a bike he’d stolen from Apple Court. The suspect was identified as Parker. The victim was transported to a local hospital and required surgery for a bullet wound to his back. The shooting was captured on security video.

Then at about 1:30 the next morning, officers responded to the 10 block of Gleason Drive for a report of a man who had broken into a residence and was attempting to steal a vehicle. Police formed a perimeter and located Parker hiding behind a nearby residence. Parker was found with a stolen gun and ammunition.

If convicted on all counts, Parker could be sentenced to over 41 years in prison. His next court date is not listed in online records.
