Suspect in Iowa City mobile home burglary taken into custody

A suspect in an Iowa City mobile home burglary has been taken into custody.

18-year-old Leighton Lawson of the Modern Manor manufactured housing community was booked into the Johnson County Jail just after 2:30 Thursday afternoon. Iowa City Police say Lawson pushed his way into a residence in the Iowa River manufactured housing community on South Riverside Drive just before 6:45 on the night of May 1st. Upon entering the trailer, Lawson allegedly punched someone inside in the head, causing a cut.

Lawson is now charged with 1st Degree Burglary and Assault Causing Bodily Injury. If convicted, he faces a maximum of 26 years in prison.
