Officials with Havenpark Communities…a company that recently purchased multiple mobile home parks in the Iowa City area…are responding to a news conference held by several mobile home park residents earlier this week.
The Wednesday event was organized by a group calling itself “Johnson County Residents United” and the Johnson County Affordable Housing Coalition, and was held at the Sunrise Village manufactured housing community. Residents discussed concerns over sudden rent increases, questionable water quality, and poor park maintenance.
Some mobile home communities in Johnson County have recently struggled with drinking water contamination, including earlier this week at Lake Ridge Estates and last January at Modern Manor.
Havenpark officials have since sent a statement to KCJJ, which reads:
“Havenpark is proud to offer high-quality, affordable manufactured homes in desirable areas like Johnson County. The health and safety of our residents is our highest priority, and we work to ensure that our properties are always safe and well-maintained. We are committed to adding enduring value for current and future residents, and across Sunrise Village, Modern Manor, and Lake Ridge Estates, we have invested more than $2,125,000 in upgrades and improvements and plan for an additional $1,200,000 in capital improvements over the next 20 months. We want our residents to be proud to call our communities home and welcome open communications at all times.”
Earlier this year, the Johnson County Board of Supervisors drafted a letter to Havenpark asking for a two-year moratorium on rent increases, as well as improved park maintenance.
