An Iowa City man was taken into custody last week after an incident last month that allegedly saw him pour gasoline on a residence’s garage floor and threaten to shoot the mother of their child.
At approximately 9:45am May 29th, officers were called to a residence regarding a domestic incident involving the three-year old girl. The mother alleged that 29-year-old Steven McNair Jr of Church Street assaulted her while the daughter was nearby. He reportedly wrapped a towel around the mother’s head, making her afraid she wouldn’t be able to breathe. McNair also allegedly threatened to shoot the woman in the face. Although he didn’t brandish the weapon, McNair has been known to carry a handgun in his vehicle.
McNair then reportedly poured gasoline on the garage floor. The Iowa City Fire Department was called to the scene, and used a fan to ventilate the residence.
A warrant was requested, and McNair was taken into custody Thursday. He faces charges of Child Endangerment, 1st degree Harassment, and Domestic Abuse Assault 3rd or subsequent offense. If convicted on all counts, McNair could be sentenced to a maximum nine years in prison.
