A $31,000 bill owed to MercyOne by Mercy Iowa City has been offered for payment, but MercyOne is currently refusing to settle the claim.
The Gazette reports that for nearly two years, MercyOne has criticized the bankrupt Mercy Iowa City for not paying its outstanding $31,524 bill — citing that debt repeatedly as grounds to fight Mercy’s liquidation plan and demand thousands of documents and emails.
In April, MercyOne cited the claim in its demands for the committee overseeing Mercy Iowa City’s liquidation to provide records. The committee sent a letter to MercyOne about two weeks later seeking to pay the claim off.
MercyOne rejected the cash payment on May 16th, saying it’s violates federal code requiring Mercy Iowa City to play the claims in a uniform manner.
Mercy Iowa City has gone to court to force MercyOne to take the money, calling it a straightforward exercise to negotiate and pay outstanding claims.
