A New London man accused of driving while under the influence earlier this year was arrested last week.

At approximately 12: 50am April 8th, 47-year-old Jason McDonnell was stopped in University Heights after he stopped in the road near the intersection of Melrose and Koser Avenues. Upon contact, his eyes were reportedly dilated and the odor of marijuana was allegedly detected.

McDonnell participated in field sobriety tests and took a PBT. A probable cause search was conducted on the vehicle, and officers allegedly found a white canister containing marijuana, and a handgun.

McDonnell was taken to the Iowa City Police Department, where he consented to urine testing. When the results came back positive, a warrant was issued June 9th. McDonnell was arrested the next day. He was charged with OWI first offense, Marijuana possession, and possession of a weapon while intoxicated. If convicted on all counts, McDonnell could be sentenced to a maximum three years in prison.
