A Cedar Rapids woman has been arrested after driving a car into the Iowa River on the University of Iowa campus.

Iowa City Police say 18-year-old Hannah Sofia of North Towne Place NE was driving a 2009 Chevy Malibu just after 3:00 Sunday morning when she drove into the Iowa River near Iowa Avenue and Riverside Drive. Sofia reportedly told arriving officers multiple times that she had switched places with someone else who had been driving before the car went into the river.

Sofia allegedly admitted to drinking earlier in the night, admitted to being too intoxicated to drive, and registered breath alcohol levels of .138% and .104%. She’s now charged with Operating While Intoxicated.
