An Iowa City man was arrested Monday afternoon after an attempt to steal a moped using an imaginative plan.
According to police, the incident occurred in the parking lot of Coral Ridge Mall. 42-year-old Matthew Albright of the Western Hills Mobile Home Park on the Coralville Strip was standing in a grassy area, and told multiple people that he lost his key to the moped. He tried to convince them to load it up in their vehicles so he could get it home.
Officers located the owner of the moped and learned it was not Albright. He reportedly later admitted to trying to steal the moped, valued at $1200.
Albright was charged with 3rd degree Theft, an aggravated misdemeanor punishable by a jail sentence of up to two years if convicted.
