City of Iowa City news release
The City has announced the road closures and Transit changes for the Downtown Block Party on Saturday, June 28, 2025.
The Downtown Block Party is a yearly celebration organized by the Iowa City Downtown District. This sprawling Downtown event is fun for the everyone, and features live music, games and activities including bocce ball, sand volleyball, giant chess and video games, a silent disco, and much more. The party runs from 4 to 11 p.m. Saturday.
The City will have free parking in all Downtown parking ramps all day Saturday, and until 10:30 a.m. Sunday, June 29.
Several road closures will be in place during the event beginning at 5 a.m. Saturday:
- Iowa Avenue from Clinton to Linn streets
- Washington Street from Clinton to Gilbert streets
- Clinton Street from Iowa Avenue to the College Street portion of the Ped Mall
- Linn Street from Iowa Avenue to just south of Washington Street
- Dubuque Street from Iowa to Washington streets
The alley north of the Iowa City Public Library will also be closed.
The “No Parking 2 a.m. to 6 a.m.” signs throughout Downtown will be enforced Saturday; any cars left in the area will be towed.
Most of the streets will be reopened early morning Sunday, June 29, 2025. The west lane of Clinton from Washington Street to Iowa Avenue will reopen around 11 a.m. Sunday.

Transit interchange will temporarily move to Court Street
Iowa City Transit will temporarily relocate the bus interchange to Court Street between Clinton and Dubuque streets starting at 6 a.m. Saturday, June 28, through Saturday, July 5. The interchange is expected to return to its normal location on Monday, July 7, 2025.
The bus will not be able to service the following stops in the Downtown area due to the detours in place. Affected bus stops are stops 7200, 7201, 7500, 7080, 7081, 7400, 7091, 7207, 7401, 7023, 7077, 7078, 7244.
The extended time of the interchange relocation is due to road construction on Washington Street.
Normal services at the Court Street interchange will resume Monday, June 30, 2025. Use the Transit App to keep track of changes; routes will be updated.
