Allegedly providing a rifle to minors has led to the arrest of a Coralville man.

20-year-old Kentrell Hobson was booked into the Johnson County Jail just after 1:00 Sunday morning. Iowa City Police say Hobson purchased a Radical Firearms RF-15 rifle at Scheels on October 7th of last year. He marked on ATF paperwork that he was not a current drug user.

Investigators conducted a search warrant on Hobson’s 10th Street Court residence on March 12th. They reportedly discovered evidence of drug use throughout the house, including marijuana and packaging materials. Hobson allegedly admitted to using drugs before and after purchasing the gun, which was also found at the residence. Police say a check of his phone records showed Hobson also sold marijuana before and after the weapon purchase.

An earlier search warrant conducted at another residence in December reportedly turned up photos on a juvenile’s cellphone that showed him and multiple other juveniles holding the rifle. The photos were reportedly taken at Hobson’s residence.

Hobson is now charged with three counts of Transferring a Rifle to a Minor and one count each of Fraudulent Purchase of a Firearm, Keeping Premises for the Use of Controlled Substances, and Possession of Marijuana. If convicted on all charges, he faces a maximum of 11 years in prison.
