A transient is accused of trying to break into a Coralville motel room in order to assault the occupant.

Coralville Police say 33-year-old Darwin Martinez Sira banged and kicked on the door of a room at the Super 8 by Wyndham on Hayden Fry Way just after 1:00 Sunday morning. Once the door opened, Martinez Sira allegedly punched the occupant in the face, causing a cut to his lip.

Police say Martinez Sira then walked outside and tried to gain entry to the room by prying off the window screen. Arriving officers say they found Martinez Sira yelling at people down the hall from where he tried to break into the room. He reportedly showed signs of intoxication.

Martinez Sira was arrested and charged with Attempted 2nd Degree Burglary and Public Intoxication. If convicted on both counts, he faces a maximum of over five years in prison.
