Gas prices in Iowa are significantly lower than they were a year ago, according to the latest survey by GasBuddy.
CBS 2 reports gas is now averaging $2.97 a gallon, a little over 31 cents lower than the same time last year. Despite that, prices are 2.2 cents higher than they were a month ago.
The website predicts the national average will drop to $3.15 per gallon by this weekend, making it the lowest price since 2021. GasBuddy analyst Patrick DeHaan says that average may dip below $3 a gallon if tensions in the Middle East remain contained and the US avoids a major hurricane.
