One person is dead after a shooting at a Muscatine Hy-Vee.
According to the Muscatine Police Department, at about 2:00 Monday afternoon Ian Antonio Hernandez of the Lakewood Estates manufactured housing community in Davenport entered the 2nd Avenue Hy-Vee and shot 37-year-old Kalista Rae Hallberg of Letts multiple times. Hallberg died at the scene.
Police say Hernandez fled the scene in a red Chrysler minivan. Officers located the vehicle at the intersection of Highway 61 and Highway 38. Hernandez was found inside the minivan with a self-inflicted gunshot wound. He was transported to UnityPoint Health-Trinity Hospital, where he was airlifted to the University of Iowa Health Care campus location. Hernandez remains in critical condition with life-threatening injuries.
Preliminary investigations determined the shooting originated from an ongoing domestic dispute between Hallberg and Hernandez.
