Longtime Johnson County auditor Tom Slockett has died.
An obituary from Powell Funeral Home in Wellman indicates Slockett died suddenly on Sunday at the age of 78.
Slockett grew up in Wellman and graduated from Mid-Prairie High School in 1965, where he excelled in football and track. He was offered a full football scholarship to Dartmouth, but instead chose to attend Iowa State University to explore his interests in Aerospace Engineering. Slockett eventually turned to Political Science, which led to his 36 year career as Auditor and Commissioner of Electronics and Voter Registration for Johnson County. He retired in 2012.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Parkside Banquet Hall in Wellman on Saturday, May 23rd, 2026 from 2-4 pm.
