The suspect in a deadly shooting in Muscatine has died while being treated for a self-inflicted gunshot wound at University of Iowa Health Care on Hawkins Drive.

According to the Muscatine Police Department, at about 2:00 Monday afternoon Ian Antonio Hernandez of the Lakewood Estates manufactured housing community in Davenport entered the 2nd Avenue Hy-Vee and shot 37-year-old Kalista Rae Hallberg of Letts multiple times. Hallberg died at the scene.

Police say Hernandez fled the scene in a red Chrysler minivan. The vehicle was found a short time later at the intersection of Highway 61 and Highway 38. Hernandez was located inside with a self-inflicted gunshot wound. He was transported to UIHC, where he died later that day.

A preliminary investigation determined the shooting originated from an ongoing domestic dispute between Hallberg and Hernandez.
