Coralville Police have arrested a drunk driving suspect they say drove to Walmart while still intoxicated from the previous night.

According to arrest records, 53-year-old Carl Host of Oxford was at the Walmart on Commerce Drive just after 10:15 Friday morning when he told officers he had driven from his home to buy food for grilling. He claimed to have had two beers and a half-glass of whiskey the previous night and had only gone to bed at 5:00 that morning…just over five hours before his encounter with police. Investigators say he still smelled of ingested alcohol, showed signs of intoxication, and had a breath alcohol level of .142%.

Host was arrested and charged with Operating While Intoxicated – 2nd Offense. He has a previous OWI conviction from 2014.
