Allegedly assaulting multiple subjects at his home while throwing a bottle and a loaf of bread at them has led to an Iowa City man’s arrest.
Iowa City Police were called to the Broadway Street apartment of 39-year-old James Carey just after 2:15 Saturday morning for a fight in progress. Arriving officers say a witness pointed them to Carey, who the witness claimed was punching people. Carey allegedly showed signs of intoxication and refused to talk to police. He then tried to go back inside.
When officers tried to stop Carey, he allegedly physically resisted, then removed his shirt and took a fighting stance. He was eventually taken into custody.
An investigation determined that Carey had thrown a bottle at a family member and missed, then threw a load of bread at her that struck her. He also reportedly threw items at other people in the household, struck the mother of his children, and struck one of the children in the face. Carey also reportedly tried to punch his daughter’s fiancé.
Carey is charged with Domestic Abuse Assault, Child Endangerment, Simple Assault, Public Intoxication and Interference With Official Acts. If convicted on all counts, he faces a maximum of 28 months in jail.
