Fire damaged an Iowa City residence Monday night.
According to a news release from the Iowa City Fire Department, firefighters were called to a grill fire at 4164 Ruth Street at 6:16 Monday night.
While enroute, crews were informed the grill fire was spreading to the house. Firefighters arrived on scene six minutes after being dispatched and encountered an active fire at the rear of the home. All occupants had safely exited the home prior to the fire department’s arrival.
The fire was quickly brought under control and most of the damage was limited to the exterior of the home. The exact cause of the fire, which resulted in approximately $50,000 in damages, remains under investigation by the Iowa City Fire Marshal’s Office.
