An Iowa City man has been arrested after allegedly threatening people at the Public Library and damaging equipment.
Police were dispatched to the South Linn Street building on reports of a man trespassing. Multiple staff workers alleged that 28-year-old Cordero Bertling of Southgate Avenue threatened to kill multiple people inside the building, charged at employees and assaulted one.
Cordero also reportedly broke two RFID readers valued at $4000 each.
Staff members did not request assault charges be filed, but Cordero was charged with Disorderly Conduct and 2nd degree Criminal Mischief. He could be sentenced to over five years in prison if convicted on both counts.
