A central Iowa man accused of sexually abusing a minor in Coralville has been sentenced to up to 15 years in prison.
Judge Kevin McKever handed that sentence down earlier this week to 38-year-old Jermeze Martin of Urbandale. Coralville Police say Martin regularly abused the girl from August of 2020 through June of 2024, when the girl ranged in age from 12 to 15 years. Martin reportedly admitted to performing sex acts with the girl. Investigators say he also provided the girl with marijuana before the sex acts occurred.
As part of a plea deal, Martin was given a ten-year prison sentence on a charge of 3rd Degree Sexual Abuse and five years for Lascivious Acts With a Child, with the two sentences running consecutively. Two counts of Drug Distribution to a Minor and a more serious sexual abuse charge were dropped as part of the plea deal.
