The Johnson County Fair opens this Saturday, and the Fair Board has announced some changes to this year’s event.

According to a post on the Fairgrounds Facebook page, the Fair will be free on Tuesday and Wednesday, and before 3pm on Saturday, Sunday and Monday.  Kids under 12 and 4H participatnts will also be admitted free.  There is a new $5 admission, cash or Venmo, after 3pm Saturday through Monday. Three-day wristbands can be purchased in advance at the Fair Office.

The Board says the admission is a practical means of covering expenses and ensuring the fair’s continued operation. Without it, they say the future of the Fair would be uncertain.

The notable addition to the Johnson County Fairgrounds is the addition of a 10,600 sq ft. air-conditioned Expo Center. The new Expo Center provides a safe, accommodating, and enhanced experience for annual fair exhibitors and allows for additional community events and agricultural exhibits throughout the year. The fairgrounds have improved safety on the track due to events there becoming more popular.

The fair promises more food vendors than ever before as well, and as always, exhibits from the Johnson County 4H.
