A Coralville man with a history of theft convictions was arrested after allegedly stealing phones from a University of Iowa building.

The incident occurred just after 7pm Thursday at the Campus Recreation and Wellness Center. 31 year old Terron Peterson is reportedly seen on surveillance video stealing one IPhone valued at approximately $1000 from a backpack. Another IPhone theft was allegedly committed from another backpack; that device was valued at $560.

Peterson then reportedly took another IPhone valued at up to $600 that was sitting on a table by the pool at the Rec center.

Police say Peterson then took the phones to Walmart on Highway 1 West and deposited them in a money-for-phone kiosk. He was identified by witnesses as the man who committed the thefts.

One of the arrest reports stated that Peterson has a plethora of theft convictions, including from March and June 2024.

He was arrested by University of Iowa Police and allegedly admitted to the crimes after being read his Miranda rights. Peterson was charged with two counts of 3rd degree Theft and one count of 4th degree Theft.  If convicted on all charges, he faces up to five years in prison.
