Iowa City Police have recovered a stolen vehicle and charged a homeless Illinois man accused of stealing it.

Arrest records indicate officers were at Sturgis Ferry Park on South Riverside Drive just before 8:00 Friday night when they located a 2024 Toyota Rav 4 that had been reported stolen out of Peoria. 49-year-old Richard Sibert was located walking away from the vehicle and was allegedly in possession of the keys. A check with Peoria Police and the car’s owner confirmed it had been stolen, and Sibert was arrested and charged with 1st Degree Theft. If convicted, he faces a maximum of ten years in prison.
