An area transient was arrested Sunday morning after allegedly driving a stolen vehicle.

Police stopped 29-year-old Robin Oligmueller when he parked at the Kum & Go location on South Riverside Drive at approximately 10:37. He was allegedly in possession of a stolen GMC pickup with Illinois plates.  Oligmueller reportedly admitted he took the truck without the owner’s consent, and was placed under arrest.

Police say there was a loaded 40 caliber handgun on the front passenger seat.  Oligmueller alleged that the gun was on the passenger side floor when he stole the truck and moved the gun to the seat.

In 2023, Oligmueller was convicted of 2nd degree Burglary and 2nd degree Criminal Mischief, both felonies, making him ineligible to be in possession of a weapon. He was given a five-year suspended sentence and 2 years of probation. An Arson charge was dismissed.

Oligmueller was initially charged with being a felon in possession of a firearm,  also a felony. He could be sentenced to up to five years in prison if convicted.
